Railway station reopens after modernization in Arkalyk, new passenger train launched

The railway station in the city of Arkalyk, Kostanay Region, has officially reopened following a comprehensive modernization. The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Akimat of the Kostanay Region, JSC NC "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy", industry veterans, and local residents.

During the reconstruction, the three-story station building was completely renovated. Its area spans 2,500 square meters. The roof, facade, and interior spaces were repaired, and the heating, ventilation, water supply, sewage, power supply, and communication systems were modernized. The facade is clad with fiber cement panels. For the interior finish, durable, fire-resistant, and easy-to-clean materials of domestic manufacture were used. Modern suspended ceilings were installed, and the flooring is made of porcelain stoneware. Comfortable waiting rooms were equipped for passengers, while the ticket offices, mother and child rooms, and sanitary facilities were updated. The station is fully adapted for persons with reduced mobility: a barrier-free environment and the necessary infrastructure have been established. The station square and the passenger platform were also landscaped.

Modern video surveillance, fire alarm, access control, and passenger announcement systems have been implemented at the facility. New emergency exits have been equipped in compliance with fire safety requirements. Comfortable furniture and technological equipment have also been installed.

In the Kostanay Region, the modernization program includes six railway stations. Work has been completed at the stations of Arkalyk, Amankaragay, Kushmurun, and Zhelezoorudnaya. At the Kostanay station, construction, installation, and finishing works, installation of engineering networks, and landscaping of the station grounds and passenger platform are currently ongoing. All works are being executed in accordance with the approved schedule.

The railway station modernization program is being implemented by JSC NC "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" using its own funds, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Transport, JSC "Samruk-Kazyna", and local executive bodies.

Furthermore, to enhance the transport accessibility of the region, JSC "Passenger Transportation" has launched a new passenger train No. 225/226 on the "Nurly Zhol – Arkalyk" route. Previously, services on this route were operated solely by a private carrier.

The train consists of six new passenger cars manufactured by RWS Wagon in 2025, including three compartment (kupe) cars and three open-berth (platzkart) cars. The train's capacity exceeds 250 passengers. The carriages are equipped with air conditioning systems, modern security features, USB ports, electrical outlets, and individual lighting. The train operates every other day on the route: Astana (Nurly Zhol station) – Zhaltyr – Atbasar – Zhaksy – Yesil – Derzhavinskaya – Arkalyk.

Additionally, satellite internet based on Starlink technology has been launched on train No. 225/226 "Nurly Zhol – Arkalyk". During the launch phase, the service will be provided to passengers free of charge throughout the entire journey, ensuring access to social networks, messengers, video services, work platforms, and other internet resources. Tickets can be purchased on the official website bilet.railways.kz and at the ticket offices of JSC "Passenger Transportation".
