The number of traffic accidents at railway crossings has decreased
29-04-2026
In the first quarter of 2026, the number of road traffic accidents at railway crossings decreased by 30% compared to the same period last year.
The issue of safety compliance at railway crossings remains relevant. The main cause of incidents continues to be drivers violating traffic rules — ignoring warning signals, attempting to cross in front of an approaching train, and failing to obey road sign requirements.
To improve safety, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) is carrying out comprehensive preventive work across all regions of the country. In the first quarter of 2026, approximately 300 preventive raids were conducted. More than 150,000 drivers were instructed on the proper way to cross railway crossings.
Since last year, amendments to legislation initiated by KTZ together with law enforcement agencies have been in effect, aimed at reducing accidents and improving discipline on the railway.
Specifically, penalties for violations have been tightened:
Railway workers urge drivers to be extremely cautious when crossing railway crossings, to strictly follow traffic rules, and to remember: rushing at a railway crossing can cost you your life — there is a high risk of being hit by a train.
