Long-term servicing enhances reliability of KTZ locomotive fleet

Over 70% of the locomotive fleet of "KTZ – Freight Transportation" LLP is under long-term servicing agreements. This approach maintains a high level of locomotive technical readiness, ensures train traffic safety, and guarantees the stability of freight operations. The service contracts cover mainline and shunting locomotives of the TE33A/AC, KZ8A, TE36A, CKD6E, and CKD6S series.

These service contracts encompass the full locomotive maintenance cycle. Specialists carry out technical maintenance, capital repairs, diagnostics, and seasonal inspections, as well as supply the locomotives with all necessary spare parts and materials.

Technical support is provided by WABTEC, "Kamkor Locomotive" LLP, "Electric Locomotive Assembly Plant" LLP, "Loco Center" LLP, CRRC Dalian, and CRRC Ziyang.

Service operations are performed at specialized centers located within the country's major railway hubs. WABTEC services locomotives across seven service centers: in Ayagoz, Almaty, Astana, Aktobe, Makat, Saksaulsky, and Shalkar, employing more than 1.5 thousand specialists. Alstom service centers operate in Astana, Almaty, Arys, and Shu, providing employment for 630 specialists.

KTZ, in partnership with CRRC Dalian and CRRC Ziyang, is establishing new service centers based at existing locomotive maintenance points. This project will enable the servicing of new rolling stock domestically, increase the local content share in servicing works, and generate new employment opportunities.

The development of the service system is already yielding tangible results. The number of unscheduled repairs is decreasing, the technical readiness of locomotives is rising, and both the reliability of the transportation process and the operational efficiency of the locomotive fleet are continuously improving.
