Heads of Kazakh and Belarusian Railways Hold Bilateral Meeting in Minsk

04-06-2026

Talgat Aldybergenov, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NC 'Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ), and Valery Verenich, Head of the Belarusian Railway State Association, held a bilateral meeting to discuss key issues in strengthening transport and logistics cooperation.

The main topics of discussion were the results of freight transportation between Kazakhstan and Belarus for 2025 and the first four months of the current year, as well as prospects for increasing freight volumes to and from China via Kazakhstan.

Currently, the volume of transportation between the two countries maintains a steady positive trend. Since the beginning of the year, about 2.3 million tons of cargo have been transported, which is 19.6% higher than the figure for the same period in 2025 (1.9 million tons). Notably, exports from Kazakhstan doubled compared to the first four months of last year, reaching 0.5 million tons, while imports into Kazakhstan amounted to 0.2 million tons, showing a 12.7% increase. Special recognition was given to transit cargo, which grew by 5.1% to reach 1.6 million tons; this included exports from Belarus in transit through Kazakhstan, which amounted to 0.75 million tons, a 2% increase compared to the four months of 2025.

These indicators confirm the strong interest of shippers in the active routes and underscore the efficiency of cooperation between the railway administrations.

As part of the visit, a Roundtable discussion was also held with shippers and exporters from the Republic of Belarus, who expressed interest in scaling up transportation volumes toward China and Central Asian countries.

This is already the third event of its kind. Previously, similar Roundtables were held with shippers from Russia and Uzbekistan and have proven their effectiveness. In-person meeting formats allow for the prompt resolution of arising issues, which directly stimulates growth in transportation volumes. The meetings with shippers have already helped increase transit by 1.5 million tons (+13.5%) compared to last year's level.
