Construction timeline for the Bakhty–Ayagoz railway line put under special control
13-07-2026
Bauyrzhan Urynbassarov, Acting Chairman of the Management Board of JSC "NC "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy", reviewed the progress of the Bakhty–Ayagoz railway line construction during a working visit. This line is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Kazakhstan's transport sector.
During a meeting with project management, the general contractor, technical supervision representatives, and responsible executors, attendees reviewed construction rates, equipment availability, labor resources, and materials. They also discussed work quality, industrial safety, and labor protection.
Construction is underway simultaneously across all sections. Workers have completed approximately 20 million cubic meters of earthworks, representing 51% of the projected volume. The subgrade construction is scheduled for completion in October of this year.
Construction and installation work has begun on all artificial structures, including 47 bridges, 317 culverts, and 18 cattle passes.
The contractor initially planned to lay 50 km of track this year. However, following instructions from KTZ management, this target was increased to 70 km.
The construction site utilizes 856 pieces of equipment and 1,356 specialists. Four shift camps—Ay, Sholpan, Urdzhar, and Bakhty—have been built for the workers.
The project actively involves domestic manufacturers and contracting organizations, drawing in a wide range of Kazakhstani enterprises. The Aktobe Rail and Section Mill supplies the rails, "Prommashkomplekt" provides the switch assemblies, and "Magnetic" delivers the reinforced concrete ties and rail fastenings. Reinforced concrete structures are manufactured on-site in cooperation with AZMK, and cement is supplied by "Shartsem" LLP (Semey), among others.
Following the working visit, the Acting Chairman of the Management Board ordered strict compliance with the construction schedule, accelerated work rates, adherence to safety requirements, and high-quality project execution.
The 303-km Bakhty–Ayagoz railway line will open a third railway border crossing between Kazakhstan and China. This expansion will increase the transport corridor's capacity to 25 million tons of cargo per year.
