Chairman of the Management board of KTZ visits key railway infrastructure facilities in Almaty region

Yelzhas Otynshiyev, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC "NC "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy", inspected the operations of railway facilities in Almaty and the Almaty region during a working visit.

In Almaty, the head of KTZ visited the Zhetysu logistics complex, which spans 9.8 hectares. Its design capacity is 115,000 TEU per year. The complex includes container and automobile yards, a 23.3 thousand sq. m warehouse, two railway tracks, and a temporary storage warehouse.

At the Almaty-1 station, Yelzhas Otynshiyev inspected the shunting hump, which operates around the clock to assemble and disassemble freight trains. The hump has a processing capacity of 1,659 wagons per day.

The station is designed to simultaneously handle up to 66 pairs of freight trains and 34 pairs of passenger trains. It employs 340 staff members who manage wagon processing, train assembly and disassembly, as well as the shunting of wagons to and from industrial spur tracks.

At the Almaty Operational Locomotive Depot, Yelzhas Otynshiyev reviewed the enterprise's operational organization. The depot serves the Almaty – Shu, Almaty – Saryozek, and Almaty – Altynkol routes. It employs approximately 860 locomotive drivers and assistant drivers. The fleet consists of TE33A and KZ8A series locomotives, as well as SKD6 shunting diesel locomotives.

During the visit, an interval train control system designed to increase network capacity was presented at the depot. The system is utilized on the Zhelygen – Altynkol section. Its key element is a rear-end telemetry device installed on the last wagon, which transmits information about the train's integrity to the locomotive. The system allows for real-time monitoring of the train completeness and enhances traffic safety.

Separately, Yelzhas Otynshiyev inspected the progress of the Almaty-1 railway station reconstruction. The construction of the platform foundation has been completed, while structural and finishing works, along with the upgrading of utility networks and passenger walkways, are ongoing. The station's area exceeds 17,000 square meters, with a daily passenger traffic of over 6,000 people.

During the reconstruction period, the passenger boarding scheme has been modified. Temporary navigation signs have been installed, and ticket offices and temporary waiting areas remain operational. Elzhas Otynshiyev instructed to accelerate the pace of work and ensure compliance with the approved schedule.

In the Almaty region, the head of the company inspected the upgraded railway station at Kazybek Bek and the progress of additional railway track construction. Built in 1960, the station building has been expanded nearly threefold to 236.7 square meters following modernization. The interiors, platform, and adjacent territory have been renovated, and new equipment has been installed.

At the Zhelygen station, a meeting was also held with contracting organizations implementing major infrastructure projects in the railway sector.

In particular, the discussion focused on the construction of the 75-km Kazybek Bek – Zhelygen bypass railway line. The project's implementation will relieve traffic at the Almaty railway hub, increase network capacity, and reduce freight transit times along the "China – Europe" and "China – Central Asia" international transport corridors.

The projects for the construction of the 127.6-km Darbaza – Maktaaral and 323-km Moiynty – Kyzylzhar railway lines were also reviewed.

The meeting focused primarily on meeting project deadlines and ensuring the quality of the work being performed.

Following the working visit, a meeting was held on the operations of the Almaty railway hub. The main topics included the organization of the transportation process in the Almaty region, increasing the capacity of the railway infrastructure, implementing projects for the development of the Almaty hub, reconstructing station complexes, and ensuring traffic safety.
