Astana-1 Station to become modern, safe, and comfortable

The reconstruction of the Astana-1 station railway terminal is proceeding according to schedule. Works continue on the roofing, facade, platform, and concourse passenger walkway. Internal finishing works are underway, alongside the installation of water supply, sewerage, heating, power supply, ventilation, and communication systems. The works are scheduled for completion in October of this year.

Following the reconstruction, the station's area will increase by 500 square meters, totaling 8.7 thousand square meters. This will enhance passenger comfort and ensure the handling of the growing passenger traffic. Currently, 255 specialists and 12 units of construction equipment are involved in the reconstruction.

The Astana-1 station railway terminal was built in 1990. In the subsequent years, only routine maintenance and minor repairs were performed.

Following the upgrade, the station will become modern, safe, and comfortable. For passenger convenience, new escalators, elevators, and lifts will be installed, and ramps, mother-and-child rooms, restrooms, and waiting areas will be equipped. A barrier-free environment will be created for passengers with limited mobility, including tactile navigation and information signs for visually impaired people.

Modern video surveillance, fire alarm, access control, and passenger notification systems are being implemented at the station. New LED screens are being installed, and the voice announcement system, furniture, and technological equipment are being updated.

The reconstruction of the Astana-1 station is being carried out as part of a large-scale railway infrastructure modernization program initiated by the Head of State. The project is included in the national upgrade program for 124 railway stations across the country, which aims to make stations modern, safe, accessible, and comfortable for passengers.

NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC is implementing the program using its own funds, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Transport, Samruk-Kazyna JSC, and local regional administrations (akimats).

Passenger traffic at the Astana-1 station exceeded 1.8 million people in the first seven months of 2026. Of these, more than 908,000 passengers departed from the capital, and over 977,000 arrived in Astana.
