At the end of 2018, the volume of cargo transportation in transit amounted to 17 million tons, which is 10% more than in 2017.
The share of cargo transportation in transit is 6% of the total volume.
The increase in transit was due to transportation of iron ore and oil from Russia to Uzbekistan, grain from Russia to Iran and Uzbekistan, of PVC from China t
o Uzbekistan, and fertilizers from Russia to Turkmenistan, China, Kyrgyzstan, ferrous metals from Russia and China in Central Asian countries, machinery and equipment from China to Uzbekistan and Poland, from Poland to China and from Korea to Uzbekistan, and sugar from Russia and Ukraine to Uzbekistan.
Currently, there are regular shipments of tomato paste from China to Italy and Kazakhstan's grain cargoes in the direction of Turkey.
At the end of 2018, 4 367 container trains were organized in transit, which is 54% more than in 2017 .
The launch of the Kuryk railway ferry complex and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line gave an additional impetus to export container transportation along the TRANS-Caspian international transport route. This made it possible to provide direct transportation by rail to the southern and Western ports of Turkey and access to the Mediterranean, as well as containerize a number of grain cargoes of Kazakhstan in export traffic.
