Kazakhstan and Russian railways expand cooperation

Questions of rail transport functioning in the Single Economic Space and Customs Union, the expansion of spheres of influence of the railways, harmonization of tariffs and other issues are on the agenda of JSC "RZD" president Vladimir Yakunin’s visit to Kazakhstan.

The President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev received the head of Russian Railways in Ak Orda.

The negotiations were held with Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Masimov.

Vladimir Yakunin was met at the headquarters of KTZ, where negotiations were held with company’s president Askar Mamin.

During the meetings and negotiations steady growth in rail traffic between Kazakhstan and Russia was marked. As a result of 2011 the volume of freight has exceeded 100 million tons. The progress in the transport of goods in transit through the territory of Russia and Kazakhstan is especially noticeable. Since the launch of joint actions of railway administrations in the Customs Union has increased the transit in half.

Established in the integration process a joint venture between KTZ and RZD-JSC "Kedentransservice" broadened the scope of transport services terminal handling and increased efficiency of the rolling stock.

Askar Mamin informed about the work on creation of business, transportation and logistic hub in Kazakhstan and about the creation activities of world-class transport and logistic company on the basis of KTZ which will be engaged in transportation by all modes of transport. In this regard, much depends on effective co-operation of railways throughout the international transport corridors.

The agreement reached during the visit will play an important role in the railways of Russia and Kazakhstan in terms of integration, will serve the interests of the peoples of the two economies within 1520.
